there and telling everyone<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">what is home <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">i see you thinking about it<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">not the first time in your life<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">but the first time in your life compared to others ideas<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">your mouth is open and shut<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">i dont understand all the words but i understand the <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">message<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\">\u201e<span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">why is there a need of home\u201c you ask and i freeze<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\">\u201e<span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">there&#8217;s no need for home you can just move\u201c<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">and i see the excitement in the faces of the other students<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">white faces creating new ideas<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">that are so much older than everything they know<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\">\u201e<span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">there is no need for home you can just move\u201c<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"\">and im sitting there my blood is under 0\u00b0C \u2013 frozen<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">inside my black body <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">im begging for <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">My father built a house<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">a house of diaspora i would call it<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">a home, that&#8217;s what he would name it<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">a castle, a casa<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">that casa he built with the money he made in germany<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">that casa he built together with his third wife<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">that casa \u2013 i never understood it<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">there where always dreams of going back<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">he just came here for his daughter<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">he stayed here to make money for my siblings<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">he found home<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">he found home in a new place<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">7630,7 kilometers away from that place where he rests his head to sleep<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\">\u201e<span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">there will be place for the three of you and when i die everyone of you will get one third of it\u201c<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">i felt strange<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">i felt guilt<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">i felt excitement and being loved<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">for years my white mom explained to me why this is <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">a sign of pressure<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">a sign of not belonging<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">a sign of&#8230;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">thank u mommy, i do understand now<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">it was a sign of resistance, a piece of belonging in an identity that will<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">never<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">be <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">part<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">of <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">yours<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">something you can&#8217;t colonize something you can&#8217;t steal<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">one piece of me one piece of my dad one piece of my blackness<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">one sign of connection<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">that you can&#8217;t change<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">That house, built over years, stone by stone piece by piece<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">it&#8217;s a sign of coming back<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">it&#8217;s a momentum a Monument <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Its a sign of moving and staying belonging and being<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">unsplit<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">These days i talk and read<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">learn and study<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">a lot about being in diaspora<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">and for most people its about being<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Between the chairs<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">It&#8217;s about not belonging<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">it&#8217;s about<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Being split<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">One day i told this to my father and his answer was so much more on point than all this academic knowledge <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">the answer of a black man out of the fawella<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The words of a man that taught himself writing and reading, not because he loved being an autodidact<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">But because he had to work from the age of six<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">His words just moved me.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">&#8222;It&#8217;s the dumbest form of envy. German dishes are just served piece by piece, they just hate to have options. While they are eating a soup and my plate is filled up with seven different dishes, they just can&#8217;t say &#8222;im jealous that you have so many and i have just one&#8220; they are more likely to be pitiful. Because that poor Black men has to decide what to eat first. You are not split, you are not in between. You have both, you have more than them. They hate it and they will never tell you&#8220;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">And he is right<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Im not split between anything<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">My identiy needs home and that&#8217;s fine<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">I&#8217;m not split between anything<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">I belong in two countries &#8211; into two countries<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">That piece of a house is replacing my piece of nationality i&#8217;m losing these days<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">That piece of that house that stands in Santo Domingo is my manifestation of belonging<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Everytime we talk he tells me that casa is waiting, <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">your brother is living there, it&#8217;s warm,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">the smell of beans, garlic and rice is wandering arround the rooms <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">waiting to catch your nose<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">I&#8217;m whole in my belonging, i&#8217;m whole in my not being part of<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">i&#8217;m not any longer part of a nation that hates black people,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">2015 is the year the goverment decided to steal this piece of my heart, <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">this piece of my family&#8217;s ten-times-diasporian identity<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">i was never part of the german identity that is creating differences between me and THE germans <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">based on my blackness <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">or more based on a racist system <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">based on my unwillingness to celebrate a colonialist country<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">but i do belong<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">my food, my hair, my taste, my culture<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">is as authentic and as whole as it could be<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">trust me everyone who is sharing my identity is<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">just<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">like <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">me<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span lang=\"\">black eastfriesan dominican plattd\u00fctsch afrocarribeans Dominicans are all the same<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">there are just-not that many of us<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">My casa is built underneath the warm sun of the carribean, my home is that Altbau-building in Bremen, two flats on my name<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">my home was built by two persons who are from the lowest classes<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">fought themselves up into that position<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">where they could gift their daughter two houses<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">my home, my belonging is in that privilege to not move but travel<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">between two places i do belong, proven by deed of ownerships<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\">\u201e<span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">why is there any need of home\u201c you ask and i do understand<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">being in diaspora means to be in between\u201d the black brown and white scholars and professors are repeating over and over again and i do understand<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">home means..\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">and i do understand.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">It&#8217;s a question of history.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">being home means to be part of the culture and the nations\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">and i do understand what my ancestors did for me<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">being afro carribean is about-\u201d and i press my hands flat on my ears<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">unwilling to hear<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">what you are thinking<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The red marker of your correction is crossing my thoughts<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">i wrote down \u201cslavery destroyed the herritage cultures of black people who are now in the carribean, compared to the transfered and saved cultures of the style=\"font-size: small;\">and i remember how tears were running down my chest, were falling on that paper<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">and how i wrote yes yes and yes down<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">it is so. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">why is there any need to build a home\u201d you ask<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">and i can just tell you, because naming a place home<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">with my black body<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">is resistence<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">for centurys<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">why does cooking mean so much to you?
